Whale watch

by Michael Dinsmore

We all went on a whale watch early Saturday morning. We went on the Cape Ann Whale Watch with some tickets I picked up from a friend to support their preschool. The boat left Gloucester Harbor at 8:30am and traveled about 30 miles offshore to Tillies Bank. Tillies Bank is part of the Stellwagen Bank National Sanctuary. We saw four different kids of whales — humpback, sei, fin and right whales. The fin whale is the second largest whale and the second largest living animal after the blue whale, growing to nearly 88 ft long. The right whale is pretty rare — only about 400 of them in the North Atlantic Ocean, so it was a nice treat to see one!

Vacation in Franconia Notch

by Michael Dinsmore

We spent a week in Franconia Notch enjoying the mostly nice weather, taking hikes, working on the kitchen, and going to Santa’s Village. Can you guess what the highlight of the trip was for the kids? If the weather was a little nicer, I might not have spent the first few days working on the kitchen, so that was a blessing in disguise!

Tree Removal

by Michael Dinsmore

It’s sad to have to cut down a tree. Unfortunately, there are times when it needs to be done. In this instance, a very big silver maple tree had dead branches on one entire side of the tree and a few larger one had already fallen in a neighbor’s yard. One of our neighbors was nice enough to let us use her driveway so we could get a large crane in and take the tree down. The pictures tell the story!
