Run Gloucester!
I recently ran the Run Gloucester road race. It was seven miles of hills! I had been running all summer, but in Cambridge/Boston around the Charles River where it’s nice and flat — and the closest thing to a hill there is a bridge! My longest run was typically five miles so the longer race mileage was a challenge as well. I had ran one six mile run along the bike path in Franconia Notch the week before (in the cold and rain) which gave me an indication of how I’d deal with the hills. Nonetheless, I still managed to finish in just over an hour (1:00:23) with a pace of 8:38 min/mile. Next year I’ll be even faster!
Acadia National Park
We just got back from a wonderful trip to Acadia National Park. Sarah found a great house to rent in Sullivan Harbor that was previously owned by Hannibal Hamlin!
The weather was great the whole time (just one small rainstorm one morning) and a welcome reprieve from the hundred plus degree weather we had been getting in Boston the week before. The blueberries were in season and we enjoyed more than our share on a few hikes — a perfect snack on the trail! Despite the incredible views and inspiring hikes, I think the kids might have liked the water slides at the recreation park the most.
New York City

Rebecca wanted to go to New York City for her eighth birthday. We thought it sounded like a good idea and more interesting than some other options. Of course, she wanted to make sure we could stop in the American Girl store while we were there. We did, but we were also able to take the kids to other places like the High Line, Chelsea Market, Battery Park, Museum of Natural History, Times Square and a few places. Everyone had fun and the weather was great for spring!
I didn’t carry the camera around everywhere the whole time, but did get a few shots nonetheless! Maybe next time we go to some art museums as well. We didn’t bother pushing our luck on this trip.
