Kitchen remodel at Mittersill

by Michael Dinsmore

Alex and I went up on Thursday night to tackle the kitchen so it’d be working and safe for the kids who would be joining just a short day and a half later. The most trouble arose from reusing an old sink that had a clip system that wasn’t exactly ideal with our butcher block counters. Luckily, we got it figured out after wrestling with it for many hours — more than we should have!

The rest of the items went up and completed smoothly. The weekend was a nice one except for a little scare when Peanut decided to wander off and not come when called. We spent a while looking for the dog.

Wood iPod Cases on CNN

by Michael Dinsmore

Over the weekend I was contacted by Sara Snow who wants to show my work on her upcoming show on CNN! Needless to say, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to show them on television. Its not every day that one gets to show one’s craftsmanship to such a large audience.

It was really nice to have someone like Sara Snow to show them as well, since she’s been a huge supporter and advocate for green and sustainable practices. This philosophy is something I work hard to incorporate into my products as well.

On that note, look for an upcoming article on a simple composter you can build in an afternoon and use to get some great, free compost for your garden!

UPDATE: Sara Snow’s latest blog entry (http://sarasnow.com/blog/?p=65) on
Green Valentine’s Day gives the details for the upcoming CNN show
detailing when my work will be on the air! Check out CNN on Thursday,
February 5th at 7:00pm EST on CNN’s on-line live show.

Rockin’ down the house

by Michael Dinsmore

Rebecca and Kate were busy making music today with their new guitars. With the weather so hot and humid it was hard to figure out something to do that wasn’t going to make me melt. While Kate was napping, I had Rebecca help me make some guitars out of some scrap pine and mahogany. I used a large diameter bit on my drill press to make the center hole and my Dozuki saw to cut notches in the bridge for the “guitar strings” — aka rubber bands. After Kate woke up from her nap, they both decided to rock the house down. I decided to take some pictures of Rebecca and Kate playing the guitar.

Rebecca and I decided to make some ice cream in order to beat the heat as well. We sat down and reviewed the different recipes from Nigela Lawson’s Forever Summer cookbook and decided on one. We took a little trip to the grocery store to get some ingredients for raspberry ice cream. Rebecca did a great job — except that she ran from the room when the beaters were whisking the ingredients together. The ice cream came out great and was quite delicious. There’s nothing like homemade ice cream!
