Final shed update

by Michael Dinsmore

shed beforeshed afterSo I’ve finally finished fixing the shed. I think the new shed looks quite nice — see for yourself. The shed matches the new color of our house (as does the new roof) and we’re going to leave the clear cedar shingle sides natural to weather over the years. All I really need to do is work on a little more the the gardens around the shed. I’ve already got a nice ‘Burgundy Wine’ mallow plant (Lavatera thuringiaca) that typically grows to six feet high to the left of the shed.

Router table update

by Michael Dinsmore

Perhaps you recall me writing about trying to find a good router back in March. Well, I didn’t decide on any of the store-bought models. Instead, I purchased some raw materials and built my own. There is a few minor tweaks I want to make – like shelves to hold the bits and and floor-mounted power switch. Some of the parts necessary for the table I ordered from Lee Valley Tools (they have a great variety of tools and some not so common things in stock). The router table works great – easy to adjust and switch bits, align the fence and plenty of surface area for the wood. I’ve made some molding and cabinet doors with it already.

Shed update

by Michael Dinsmore

Well, we finally had a nice weekend for a change and that allowed me to bang out some of the punch list for the shed. Since we had a new roof put on the house last fall we had plenty of extra shingles to redo the shed with the same ones. The cedar clapboards went up quickly, although a few were prone to splitting. Finally, the new doors were put into place but the hardware to keep them closed still needs to be put on.
